And that's exactly what rests on the shoulders of our technologists. Their expertise is key to achieving success in a highly competitive environment.
A technologist is a professional who specializes in the technical aspects of the production process and who works to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency. His or her work covers a range of activities, from analyzing the production process and identifying areas for improvement, to designing new production methods and implementing new technologies.
But what does that mean exactly?
One of the most important tasks for a technologist at Label design is product testing. For each new label we produce, the technologist must define the production process and determine, for example, the cut or form so that the product is produced in accordance with specific specifications and quality standards. The more complex the label design, e.g. booklet or peel-off, the more difficult it is to determine the process. Of course, this requires an in-depth knowledge of the different characteristics and behaviors of the different types of printing presses and materials used. In the case of brand new products such as our Linerless labels, technologists often have to gather detailed information from various sources at home and abroad to be able to put these innovations into practice. The technologist is also the main person who ultimately puts a label into production, or may not recommend it for production at all.
Another part of our technology department's work is testing. The technologist tests new materials, paints, varnishes, and embossing. These tests might include research into durability, safety, and quality. Again, this is followed by the technologist's recommendation or rejection of the material that has been tested.
The technologist is also often present at meetings with customers who would like something special, such as labels for special editions with unusual constructions or designs. Here, the technologist's job is to advise the customer on what is and what is not possible to produce, or to figure out the best way to do it.
Monitoring efficiency is another important part of the job. The technologist analyzes production processes and optimizes them to make sure that production runs efficiently and without problems. If there is a problem with a product, he or she must be able to react quickly and find a solution, or find out where the mistake occurred.
It takes a lot of knowledge, but also years of experience for a technologist to acquire, in addition to a strictly "pure" technical knowledge, a "sixth sense" for what is and what is not even worth trying in production.
